Cate played Nordoff High School in Ojai today to a 14-4 win. Today we were without seniors Lily Zanze and Josie Erickson and sophomore Ellie Tunnell. However, we were able to take the field and control the draws (winning 16 of 19 draws) and field play. It was a slow start, however, about eight minutes into the game, Cate picked up the pace, cleaned up our ground balls, and connected passes. A huge shout-out goes to all the freshmen who earned significant playing time and were fantastic in the field. Defenseman Riley Pan transitioned to attack and the midfield today scoring her first two varsity goals and winning a draws. Caroline Coors had a spin move with the ball to dodge two Nordhoff defenders. Mei Gong scored an impressive goal with minutes left in the game. Ingrid Lu and Eleni Bhatia worked hard on defense staying with their mark. And, Oona Summerford-Ng and Jasmine Palekar created offensive chaos and midfield support to help the team create ball movement and connections on the transition. I was incredibly proud of our new players today.
After the game, it did not feel like our best. However, it was a good win overall and showed us where we need to place our focus and attention as we prepare for San Marcos on Friday at home at 4pm. The team is currently 3-0.
