Last Modified: June 30, 2019

Introduction

Cate School (“us,” “we,” the “School”, or “Cate School”) is committed to respecting the privacy rights of the users of our websites (www.cate.org, or the “Site”). By using the Site, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy. These practices may be changed, but any changes will be posted and changes will only apply to activities and information on a going forward, not retroactive basis. You are encouraged to review the Privacy Policy whenever you visit the Site to make sure that you understand how any personal information you provide will be used. This Privacy Policy explains what information of yours will be collected by us when you access the Site, how the information will be used, and how you can control the collection, correction and/or deletion of information. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is only applicable to the Site, and not to any other websites that you may be able to access from the Site (including, but not limited to, applications for admission to the School submitted through www. Veracross.com), each of which may have data collection, storage, and use practices and policies that differ materially from this Privacy Policy.

Collection of Information

Non-Personal Information. We automatically collect certain types of information when you visit our Site, including IP addresses and the type of device and web browser used to access the Site. This is anonymous information that does not personally identify you but is helpful for improving your experience on the Site. This information may be collected through the use of cookies and/or log files, as described in this section.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser that allows the website to “remember” your preferences (such as calendar settings and site bookmarks) on the site from visit to visit, or to maintain your “logged in” status when visiting protected areas. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. Web browsers have settings allowing you to reject cookies, selectively accept cookies, or delete cookies previously accepted. Please be aware that rejecting or deleting cookies from our website may make certain functions unavailable to you. Some browsers have incorporated “Do Not Track” features. Most of these features, when turned on, send a signal or preference to the website or online service that a user visits, indicating that the user does not wish to be tracked. The Site does currently respond to a Do Not Track signal.

Log Files

Like most standard website servers, we use website statistical packages such as Google Analytics to analyze trends in how our website is accessed and utilized. Information monitored includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, geographic location of visitors (country, city), browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, time spent on pages, and keywords used to find our site via search engines. This information is anonymous and cannot be directly linked to individual users. We may use it to identify high-use or low-use areas of the site, pinpoint problem areas of the site, analyze broad demographic trends in our visitors, and make decisions about how to make it easier for people to find and navigate our website. To learn more about the privacy policy of Google Analytics, visit www.google.com/analytics, and to learn how to opt out of that service, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We will retain Personal Information we process on behalf of users for as long as, but no longer than necessary to (i) provide the above-described services offered through the Site and (ii) comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

When a user submits Personal Information it is used only for the purpose stated at the time of collection.

We collect and process Personal Information from individuals only as necessary in the exercise of the School’s legitimate interests, functions and responsibilities as a private, non-profit educational institution. We use Personal Information to send you information about Cate School, to evaluate applicants for admission to Cate School, or to contact you when necessary. For purposes of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”), the legal basis for our processing of Personal Information is that the processing is necessary for providing our services or information about our services through the Site and that the processing is carried out in our legitimate interests (see GDPR Article 6(1)(f)), which legitimate interests are as described in the preceding sentences of this paragraph and elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.

This consent is also considered as the consent to send electronic mail messages under the GDPR provisions. At the same time, I agree that the controller may also process my Personal Information through a data processor under the terms and conditions set out by the GDPR. The consent is provided for the unlimited period until it is revoked. The Personal Information may be modified or supplemented, and the consent to processing thereof may be revoked by sending an email to admission@cate.org. In such a case, the provided Personal Information will be updated, blocked, or deleted. Receiving electronic mail or messages from Cate School may be revoked in the same manner, or by following the unsubscribe link included in an electronic mail or message, at any time.

You may choose not to provide us with any Personal Information. In such an event, you can still access and use much of the Site; however you will not be able to access and use those portions of the Site or related services that require your Personal Information.
