The Cate baseball team clinched a spot in the post-season with a 14-2 win over Villanova Prep on Friday, April 19. It is the first time since 2019 that the Rams will take part in the CIF playoffs (the team won the league in 2021 and was eligible for post-season play but couldn’t participate because of a delayed finish to the season due to the COVID pandemic).

Quinn Pullen ’25 and Peter Lehman ’25 led the way for Cate. Pullen ’25 was 3-5 with 3 RBIs; Lehman ’25 was 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Pullen ’25 had a double on the day. Alex Ke ’27, Barron Crayton ’26, and Andrew Tanner ’27 all had hits for the Rams. Jackson Steele ’27 had an RBI.

Pullen ’25 went the distance, tossing 7 strong innings. He surrendered just two hits on the day, walked 3, and struck out an eye-popping 17 Wildcats. This week, Cate pitchers struck out 33 batters in two games.

Our goal all season long was to get back to the playoffs and we did it. This group has battled through injury and illness and never once complained. They showed some real grit this season and we are so proud of all they accomplished. There are still some things left to accomplish this year, but we are going to celebrate this achievement tonight and get back to work next week.

The Rams kick off the final week of the regular season with a showdown for first place with Foothill Tech. The two teams will meet on Monday, April 22 at 4 pm at De Anza Middle School in Ventura.

A special thank you goes out to all of the families who showed up to support us today on Family Weekend and to Wade Ransom for setting up a snack table at today’s game! Thank you all!
