For the second time in five days, Cate swimming traveled to Ventura, this time for a dual meet with host Foothill Tech, along with teams from St. Bonaventure and Bishop Diego.
Like last week, the Cate varsity teams won by wide margins. The boys’ JV team also won easily, while the girls’ JV finished second to Foothill Tech.
Showcasing their depth, the varsity boys won every event, sometimes seeing the top three or even four places. The varsity girls won five of eight individual events, and swept all three relays.
The highlight of the day, though was a new Cate School record in the 200 individual medley by Jenevive Won ’26. Already a school record holder in the butterfly, Jen has been stalking the IM record for two seasons, and we knew it would come soon. Today she used strong backstroke and breaststroke legs to put up a new best time of 2:23.69, breaking Sophia Soriano’s 10-year-old record by nearly a second.
Other varsity event winners were as follows:
Girls’ Events
Boys’ Events
This meet served as a final tuneup before championship season, starting with Tri Valley League Prelims next Wednesday, 4/24 at 2 pm in Ventura (Finals Friday 4/26 at the same time and place).
