Cate came out strong against Beacon Hill, sweeping them in the CIF Wildcard match at home in 3 sets (25-11, 26-16, 25-17). In a nutshell, everyone played well! Setter Zadin Stephens ’25 did a great job distributing the sets, allowing all his hitters to score. We had consistent passing and excellent defense by Lucian Tann ’25 and Lucas Huiner ’25, who each picked up 11 digs, followed by Max DeVore ’25 and Oliver Lee ’24 picking up 8 a piece. Zadin was able to engage his middles, notably Zach Coulter ’25 hitting 4 kills with no errors and Lucian Tann ’25 putting away 4 kills from various spots on the court. Henry Bouma ’25 had an excellent night hitting from both pins, tallying 8 kills with only one error and notching two blocks. Ben Richmond ’24 and Max Devore continued to hold down the outside force with 12 and 8 kills, while both put the pressure from the service line, with 6 and 3 aces, respectively.

“The team plays for each other. They quickly shake off each other’s mistakes and are so genuine in celebrating each other’s successes on the court. It is so fun to watch, and we hope to continue the momentum into our next match,” says Head Coach KC Collins.

We move on to the next CIF playoff round at Malibu High on Friday at 5:00.
