Pitching Challenges

The Cate baseball team played another marathon game on Wednesday, April 3, as they traveled to Newbury Park and beat the Newbury Park Adventist Gators 19-9. The win makes the Rams 6-3 on the year.

The Rams offense showed up in a big way, totaling 17 hits. Cate also took advantage of the 8 Gator errors. The Rams swiped 11 bases. Noah Casbarro ‘26 was 5-6 with an RBI. Ethan Gibson ‘25 was 3-5 with 2 RBIs. A group of Rams (Quinn Pullen ‘25, Peter Lehman ‘25, Alex Ke ‘27, and Josh Butler ’26) all had multiple hits. Barron Crayton ‘26 had a hit and put good contact on the ball today.

The thorn in the Rams’ side today was pitching. In all, Cate surrendered 11 walks and hit four batters. Casbarro ‘26 got the start for Cate and went an inning and 2/3. Butler ‘26 came in for relief; he lasted two and a third innings. Andrew Tanner ‘27 closed the door with three nice innings in relief. The Cate hurlers struck out 10 Gators on the day.

Coaches Comments:
It wasn’t our cleanest game, but we did some nice things. We played very well defensively and had some very good at-bats. This young team continues to gel; I’m very proud of them. We have one more non-league game before league play. We hope to be at our best as we head into the final stretch of our season.

The Rams are at home on Friday, April 5, against Bishop Diego. The first pitch will be at 4pm.
