The Cate baseball team continued its march toward the postseason with a nice 12-2 win over Villanova Prep on the road. The victory puts Cate at 10-3 on the year. Chase Meyer ‘26, Peter Lehman ‘25, and Ethan Gibson ‘25 all had multi-hit games for Cate. Lehman ‘25 had two triples and 4 RBIs on the day. Gibson ‘25 had 2 RBIs. Quinn Pullen ‘25 narrowly missed a home run and settled for a triple. He finished the game with 3 RBIs and 3 walks. Alex Ke ‘27, Barron Crayton ‘26, Josh Butler ‘26, and Andrew Tanner ‘27 all had hits for the Rams; Butler ‘26 also had an RBI.

The story of the game was the dominance of Lehman ‘25 on the mound. The left-hander tossed 6 innings, walked just 1, surrendered only 3 hits, and struck out 15. The first 10 outs Cate recorded were all strikeouts from Lehman ‘25, which might be a Cate record. Fellow lefty Butler ‘26 came in to close the door in the 7th inning.
The game was also highlighted by Omar Melendez ‘27, making his varsity debut. George Marin ‘26 joined the team on the day and scored a run in his first-ever baseball action. Susie Diaz ‘24 became just the 6th female identifying player to get into a game, as she took over for Melendez ‘27 in the outfield to close the game.

We did many good things today, especially early on in the contest. It feels good to be just one win away from a post-season birth. We continue to watch this team learn, which is exciting. We can’t wait to clean up our mistakes over the next two days as we try to play our best baseball going into the final 3 games of the regular season.

The two teams will meet again on Friday at 4pm at Cate.
