Cate Volleyball Faces Disappointing Loss to Bishop

Bouma’s Brilliance Not Enough to Secure Victory

It was a disappointing loss for Cate. We felt ready and came in with high hopes and confidence, but even as close as the first set was, we couldn’t get our groove on.  We knew Bishop blockers would camp on go-to hitter Ben Richmond ’24, and we specifically wanted to get other hitters involved.  Henry Bouma ’25 had one of his best matches, taking some significant swings, earning a couple of solid kills, and notching four blocks for the night. The first set started with some great passing by Lucas Huiner ’25, Lucian Tann ’26, and Richmond, which created some offensive opportunities, and we were right in there. Losing that 25-27 was a heartbreaker. Our passing and defense stalled in the second and third sets, and we had trouble moving the ball around and putting balls down past Bishop’s consistent defense. We tried to adjust the lineup to add variety, but everyone seemed to scramble. We couldn’t quite get the right play on the ball, and we couldn’t get momentum on our side, so everything went flat.

Scores:
27-25

The next match is Thursday at home vs. Dunn at 5 pm.
