Down 3-0 going into the bottom of the 6th, the Cate baseball team mounted a furious come back, scoring 7 runs in the 6th inning which eventually led to a 7-5 comeback win over visiting Nordhoff High School. The win evens Cate’s record at 2-2.
The Rams had their chances to cash in on runs prior to that 6th inning outburst, but couldn’t quite get the big hit when they needed it. In that deciding 6th frame, Cate led off with back to back walks. After a beautifully placed bunt single by Ethan Gibson ‘25, Alek Ke ‘27 poked a single into left field to bring home the first two Cate runs. The Rams went ahead one batter later when Andrew Tanner ‘27 reached on a single that brought home two more. After another walk and strikeout, Noah Casbarro ‘26 shot a single into right center field that plated two and gave Cate a 6-3 lead. The final run of the inning came when Peter Lehman ‘25 laced a single into centerfield to score Casbarro ‘26.

The star of today’s game was Lehman ‘25. The southpaw went 6 and 2/3 innings, surrendered just 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. He was relieved by Josh Butler ‘26 who recorded the final out of the game. Chase Meyer ‘26 and Quinn Pullen ‘25 played great defense for Cate.

What a thriller. We learned a lot about our team today and I’m so proud of the heart we showed. That grit will beneeded later on in the year and even beyond baseball. This is a scrappy group of ballplayers. We have a long way to go still but games like this are going to be great for us moving forward.

The Rams will head on Spring Break tomorrow (3/1) and return to action on Thursday, March 21 against Ojai Valley School.
