Winning Start: Cate Swimming Triumphs in First Meet of the Season

Boys Sweep, Girls Secure Double Victory in Relay Dominance against Foothill Tech and La Reina

Cate Swimming hosted its first meet of the season against Foothill Tech and La Reina on Friday afternoon. The Cate boys easily defeated Foothill Tech 136-29, while the girls beat Foothill 91-70 and La Reina 98-55. The Cate boys also won the JV meet over Foothill Tech 69-31, while the girls’ JV lost to Foothill 79-29 and to La Reina 46-40.

The Cate boys won every event in the meet. They were led by captain Zach White ’24 (200 free, 100 fly) and captain Joba Samson ’25 (50 free, 100 free), who each picked up two wins. Ben White ’25 (200 IM), Phin Stephenson ’25 (100 breast), Wil Rivera ’27 (500 free), and Josiah Hansen ’27 (100 Back) rounded out the first-place finishes in individual events.

An all-freshman team of Hansen, Devon Liang, Rivera, and Maddox Tanaka picked up the first-place finish in the 200-medley relay. Zach and Ben White teamed with Samson and Kairei Jones to win the 200 free relay and with Hansen and Rivera to win the 400 free relay.

On the girls’ side, captain Stella Rogers ’25 (50 free, 100 free) picked up two wins, while captain Angie Zoric ’24 won the 100 back. Jen Won ’26 cruised to victory in the 200 IM, and Michelle Wu ’27 picked up her first win for Cate in the 100 breaststroke.

Cate girls also swept the relays. Zoric, Wu, Won, and Madeleine Kollock ’27 won the 200 medley relay, while Rogers teamed with Wu, Zoric, and Tallulah Bates ’25 to win the 200 free relays, and then with Won, Kollock, and Caroline Keohane ’24 to win the 400 free relays.

Cate’s next meet is at home on Thursday in a multi-team format against Laguna, Bishop, St. Bonnie, Santa Clara, and Dunn.
