George Marin ’26 scores on a PK to take a 2-1 lead.

PK Heroics and Grit Define Unforgettable Victory

The Cate Rams hosted the Royal HS Highlanders on a very wet evening @ SBHS. The Rams once again got on the scoreboard early; in the 5th of. the match, TJ Weir ’25 collected a loose ball in the box and poked it into the net to give the Rams the lead. The visitors came right back and created multiple chances but the Ram backline was able to hold them off. The score remained 1-0 at the half in favor of the Rams.

The second half began and the skies opened up. 10 minutes in, Royal was able to equalize the game. Both teams pressed on, and it was a very balanced match. With 5 minutes to go in regulation, the Rams were awarded a penalty kick (PK), and George Marin ’26 stepped up and converted to take the 2-1 lead. In the last minute of regulation, under a deluge of rain, the visitors tied the game once again, and the game headed for OT.

Neither team was able to score so we headed for PK’s. Goalkeeper (GK) Quincy Thorne ’26 blocked two highlander attempts to give Cate a 5-3 advantage and the victory.

We faced a great opponent tonight but our young men showed their grit and determination by bouncing back after losing the lead twice. Every single player on this 18 man roster contributed to today’s win.

The Rams will be traveling to Irvine on Friday for a CIF SS round 2 matchup against Northwood.
