Team Learns and Grows from Early Defeat

In a challenging home opener, the Cate boys tennis team encountered a formidable opponent in Newbury Park, ultimately losing 12-6. Despite the setback, individual performances showcased the team’s resilience.

Singles Standouts:

Ethan Bloom ’24 demonstrated skill, finishing with a commendable 2-1 record.
Nate Newlove ’25 showcased determination with a 2-1 score.
Kakeru Hirofuji ’27 exhibited his prowess, concluding with a solid 2-1 performance.

Doubles Challenges:

ElĂ­as Lieser ’25 and Felipe Blanco ’24 faced tough competition, ending with a 0-3 record.
Graham Clinger ’26 and James He ’27 battled hard but concluded with a 0-3 result.
Kaden Greene ’27 and Basilio Boschi ’25 fought valiantly but ended with a 0-3 record.
Despite missing key starters Harry Su ’25 and Alex Gallegos ’26, the team displayed resilience and competitive spirit. The absence of these players was felt, and their presence could have influenced the outcome. Newbury Park, a team with significant depth, proved to be a challenging opponent.

“Kakeru Hirofuji’s very strong debut match stood out, while all three Cate players showcased skill against Newbury Park’s excellent number one, senior Kei Ohya,” head coach Lance Kronberg said.
