Kakeru Hirofuji Shines Bright in Second High School Match as Cate Prepares for League Play

In a challenging match against Dos Pueblos, the Cate Boys Tennis team faced a tough 11-7 defeat. Despite the overall outcome, a standout performance came from Kakeru Hirofuji ’27, who earned the title of Player of the Day with an impressive three points in only his second high school match. Ethan Bloom ’24 contributed significantly with a two-point win in singles, showcasing his skills on the court. The doubles duo of Nate Newlove ’25 and Felipe Blanco ’24 displayed teamwork and determination, securing another two points for the Rams. While the other doubles teams showed marked improvement, they could not score against the formidable Chargers. Notably, James He ’27 made his singles debut for Cate, engaging in a fierce battle against Dos Pueblos’ top player and losing in a tiebreaker 7-6(3), demonstrating his formidable singles game. Despite the loss, the team remains optimistic as they head into league play next week against St. Bonaventure, confident that their hard work and progress will lead them in the right direction.
