In the first quarter, Cate proved to be the stronger team, outscoring Saugus 3-2 and dominating on defensive interceptions and mid-field runs. However, the game became increasingly closer as Cate struggled to take care of the fundamentals of the sport. We were tied 5-5 at the half but then struggled- not scoring in the 4th quarter.

Ultimately, we lost in the last two minutes to a strong showing by Saugus. Overall though, it was a positive learning experience. It was the perfect game to play early in the season. It showed us where we need to place time and attention. I have no doubt that we will rebound even stronger tomorrow.

There were several players who stepped up their game today. Maia Holmes ’26 took her game to the next level. Her vision in both the midfield and on the attack led to her scoring 3 goals and having 2 assists. She was exceptional in the midfield as an outlet and support to Lucy Guilbert-Neil ’25 who won 7 of our 9 draws. Sam Jimenez ’25 earned the game ball with her strong and clear communication on defense and two interceptions. She is simply becoming one smart defender! And, as always, captain Riley Pan ’24 led the field in tempo and hardwork. She sets the standard for the team. Thank you to Paul Dension for your help with coaching this week.
