Cate Edges Out Royal in Season Opener: 12-11 Victory Sets the Tone

Captains Pan and Jung Lead Charge with Stellar Performances

Girls Varsity Lacrosse played their first home game vs Royal. If today indicates the season ahead, this will be one memorable year. The team took control of the controllables, giving 100% effort on the field. They dominated ground balls, protected them, worked hard on the redefend, and utilized the clock sharply. Harper Halbardier ’26 started the run-off with a goal to get us on the board. We then kept a lead against a strong Div I team. Captain Riley Pan ‘24 and Lucy Guilbert-Neil ’25 worked especially hard in the midfield to force five turnovers that were quickly converted to goals. They were simply outstanding. The team was then led on attack by Sophia Ospina ’25, who had four assists and 1 goal. On defense, Jeeyou Jung was in the net and recorded 14 saves. Coach Renee Mack says, “I was incredibly proud of her play.” She showed up strong for her first varsity game. Along with the goalie, Shannon Murray ’24, Sophie Alijani ’24, and Sam Jimenez ’25 were anchors on the defense with clear communication.

“Today’s win was a great start to the season. It is early in the season, and there is a lot to learn, but today showed incredible promise,” says coach Mack. Please come support the team next Tuesday at home vs Saugus at 4:30.
