The Cate baseball team picked up its first win of the season with an 11-1 victory over Newbury Park Adventist on Wednesday, February 28. The win puts Cate at 1-2 on the year.

Cate tallied 8 hits against the Gators. Chase Meyer ’26 had two hits for Cate, including a double. He also had two RBIs. Quinn Pullen ’25 had two hits and three RBIs for the Rams, including a triple. Peter Lehman ’25 had two hits on the day and 2 RBIs as well. Ethan Gibson ’25 collected a single for the Rams also. Barron Crayton ’26 got on the stat sheet with his first hit in a Cate uniform with a single.

The story of the game was Pullen ’25 and his dominance on the mound. The right-hander went all 6 innings, surrendered just one hit, and struck out 14. I’d need to look deeper at the record books, but 14 strikeouts might be some kind of record for us. He also did all of that on an impressive 73 pitches.

We did a ton of good things today and it felt good to get in the win column. Our young team continues to improve and I’m very proud of their effort today. We’re going to keep on getting better. The sky is the limit for us.

It’s a short turnaround for the Rams. They are back in action tomorrow at 3:30 at home against Nordhoff.
