Cate, now 7-1 (1-0), ends 2023 on a high note with its most complete and convincing team win over Cabrillo on a cold and gloomy Lompoc night on December 12th.
Tonight’s basketball was beautiful to be a part of. We were unselfish and shared the ball and beat their press with ease. Cabrillo had some serious athletes, but our team defense was too much for them in the first half.
Josh Butler ’26 had a massive night on both ends of the ball and turned lots of steals into scoring opportunities for Cate. He had 15 on the night and was controlling the boards.
Marcus Scudder ’25 continued his dominance in the open court with a game-high 23 points to go along with a handful of beautiful assists in transition.
Tonight’s game showed that we are improving. We return to play against league favorite St Bonaventure on Friday, 1/12.

When we walked into the gym, Cabrillo’s head coach asked about Babacar Pouye ’23. “I want to highlight that this season, his first season at Bates College D3, Babacar is playing at a tremendously high level and leading the team in minutes played most games.” -Coach Andy Gil
