Rams’ Football Triumph in Tight Rematch with Flintridge

The Cate Football team punched its ticket to the CIF Southern Section Semifinals with a 33-25 win at Flintridge Prep on Friday, November 3.

The game served as a rematch from Week 1, and, just as it was on the previous occasion, the two sides played in a tight contest. After a scoreless first quarter, the Rams got on the scoreboard first with a 7-0 touchdown at Flintridge. After the Wolves evened the score, Quinn Pullen ‘25 found Scurtis ‘24 on a 7-yard swing for a touchdown. Going into the half, the Rams led 14-6.

Flintridge scored three times in the third quarter, once on a touchdown, once on a Cate safety, and once on a field goal. Going into the 4th quarter, the Rams trailed 17-14.

The final frame, and even much of the game, was dominated by the Pullen ‘25 to Tyler Martinez ‘24 connection. The duo linked up twice for long scores in the fourth, the first was a 55 yard pitch and catch and the second Martinez ‘24 broke a tackle and roared into the open field for a 74 yard score. The defense got into the action, with Henry Bouma ‘25 scooped up a fumble on the goal line. The Rams defense held on and did enough to secure the victory from there.

The defense was stout all evening. Johnny Foster ‘25, Pen Brooks ‘24, and Riley Valente ‘25 were all over the field for the Rams. Scurtis ‘24 had an interception on the day. The defensive line of Cody Mast ‘25, Bouma ‘25, and Barron Crayton ‘26 all bottled up a very talented Wolves running attack.

What a game.  This was a full team effort for all 4 quarters. We are so proud of the heart and effort of these guys. We’re excited to be one of 4 teams left in our division.

The Rams will host the Semifinals at Carpinteria HS under the lights Friday at 7pm. This will be another rematch, this time against Valley Christian from Santa Maria.
