Boys Varsity Soccer vs Thacher

February 13, 2020

The Cate boys varsity soccer team opened up the CIF playoffs with a 3-0 win Wednesday afternoon against visiting Thacher. Cate wasted no time getting on the board when senior Buba Fofanah slotted a perfect cross on the ground that fellow senior Theo Mack tucked away in the 4th minute. The Rams struck again in the 23rd minute when Fofanah set up freshman Jae Lim in much the way he had Mack, the result being the same. Cate put an exclamation point on the half in the 33rd minute when senior Harry Corman delivered a perfect one-time ball from the backline straight to Fofanah up top, who beat the helpless Toad keeper to the far post. Cate continued to manufacture scoring opportunities throughout the game but just couldn’t find the back of the net.
From the opening minute, we worked hard to establish the pace of play and not allow Thacher to get comfortable. And we limited them to only three shots on goal on the day. Enormous credit goes to the rotation of players who manned the midfield for us. They worked hard both ways and were instrumental in helping generate so many of our scoring opportunities. This was a complete team effort.
The win moves us to 11-0-1 on the season. We head to Cerritos to play Valley Christian this Friday in the second round of playoffs.
