Boys Varsity Basketball vs Thacher

Thacher 20 8 10 7 5 6 8 – 64

Cate (8-3, 0-1) opened up league play against rival Thacher at Thacher in thrilling fashion. The game ended in three overtimes, 64-59, in favor of the toads and the visiting Cate Rams dropped to 0-1 in league.

It was a tough night for the Rams. We didn’t play to our potential but there was some silver lining. Our bench did an incredible job all night. They were a huge part of our 2nd quarter run to cut the lead at half. Four starters fouled out in regulation and our bench did a phenomenal job keeping us in the game through OT.

I credit junior Tyler Tom and senior John Shelburne for being our sparks off the bench.

As a coach, I want this one back. Thacher is a tough team who, thankfully, we get to play again. Too many turnovers and missed free throws cost us. Said Coach Gil, “Thacher played harder than us today and were the aggressor and out boarded us.”

We host league opponent Providence, Wednesday at 6pm.
