Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Grace Brethren

October 16, 2019

Cate clinches the Tri-Valley League title on senior night with a win over Grace Brethren Tuesday on the Mesa.

The fans were out for this match making it the loudest all season. Getting to play in front of such a large, boisterous crowd was a great experience to have on senior night – and pulling out the win made the night extra special.

Seniors Kenzie Davidson, Maya Blattberg and Grace Blankenhorn displayed their talent in the first set with a decisive 25-13 victory. In the second set, Cate’s defense struggled a bit in the home stretch which allowed the Lancers to outscore the Rams 13-4 and walk away with the 21-25 win. In sets three and four, Cate found their groove, put their offense in high gear and never looked back, finishing off Grace Brethren with scores of 25-20 and 25-6.

Sophomore middle, Chidera Chukwumerije led the team with 12 kills and 5 blocks, while junior setter Riley Borchardt and sophomore hitter Elise Guerrand-Hermes both had 11 kills. The team was exceptional on serve-receive and passed a nice 2.07 which really helped the team get into their offensive system.

Cate finishes the season 7-1 in league play. They will await the postseason seeding on Saturday for the first round of CIF Playoffs.

Go Rams!
