Boys Volleyball vs Carpinteria

April 30, 2018

On Tuesday, April 26, the Cate boys volleyball team had a great comeback to edge out Carpinteria in 5 sets 19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-11.

Although the team dropped the first two sets, Cate managed to stay composed and patiently waited for things to click. And they did. In set 3, Theo Mack ’20 led the charge with a feisty attitude, grabbing 5 digs, a key block and knocking down 7 kills on offense. Jojo Broussard ’19 made some key ups in the back row earning 5 digs and many cheers from the sidelines. The fourth set saw the reams come together as a team. Mack ’20 continued to stay strong while Cullen Barber ’19 found his groove and was an offensive force smacking down 5 kills, passing well and pulling up 4 digs. Carson Williams ’19 came alive unleashing on the ball out of the middle commandingly putting down 3 kills. Ethan Ng ’20 diligently worked at the net hitting over passes and funneling many balls to the defense. The fifth and final set was just plain solid teamwork to take the match. Albert Barber ’21 anchored the team in the libero position with strong serving, steady passing and an impressive 23 digs for the match, while setter Sebastian Richardson ’19 hustled to every ball and made quick decisions. He stepped up his game toward the end, taking some risks and engaging all of the Rams’ hitters and it paid off. “We were proud of how the team worked and pulled together even when down to pull out the exciting win,” said head coach KC Collins.

Cate is 9-3. Final matches are at Fillmore Monday 5:00 and at Bishop Tuesday 5:00.
