Joshua Yaro ’13 Bound for MLS Soccer

January 8, 2016

Joshua Yaro, a member of Cate’s Class of 2013, has signed a Generation Adidas contract and declared himself eligible for the Major League Soccer SuperDraft to be held on January 14th. Yaro, a 3-time All-CIF defender, and 2013 NSCAA All-American during his time on the Mesa, was considered by many to be the No. 1 pick in last year’s MLS draft if he had declared. Instead, he returned to Georgetown for his junior year in order to remain on pace to graduate with degrees in anthropology and international relations.

In addition to his exploits on Cate’s soccer fields, Yaro was the 2013 CIF Division 4 Champion in the Triple Jump and awarded the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports award by the Santa Barbara Round Table. During his time at Georgetown, Yaro amassed numerous awards including Big East Player of the Year, Big East Defensive Player of the Year and NCSAA First Team All-America honors in 2014. Academically, Yaro has achieved a great deal of success at Georgetown earning NSCAA First Team Scholar All-America, CoSIDA Academic All-District while twice being awarded Big East Conference All-Academic honors.

“Joshua Yaro is the epitome of the term ‘student-athlete’,” said Cate’s Director of Athletics Wade Ransom. “His considerable accomplishments here on the Mesa have been exceeded with his performance in the classroom and on the field at Georgetown. I am thrilled that he will be taking his on-field talents to Major League Soccer and am truly excited for whichever city is lucky enough to have Joshua join its community in the coming months. He is a once-in-a-generation talent and an even better person.”

“His former teachers, coaches, and classmates,” Ransom added, “wish him the best of luck in his professional endeavors.”
