April 26, 2017

The Cate girls varsity lacrosse team captured the Channel League title on Tuesday, April 25 with a 15-5 win against Santa Barbara High School at Cate. Maddie Erikson ’19 led the team with six goals and three assists, while also leading the team in ground balls (five). Brie Walker ’18 led the team with assists (four) and added five more goals. “Brie was a consistent playmaker today on attack,” said Cate Head Coach Renee Mack.

Eva Herman ’17 and Piper Brooks ’20 moved into the midfield to help with the transition and off-ball movement. “In fact, Brooks ’20 with two goals today, has come alive in the last two games, becoming Katherine Grossman’s ’17 (one goal, one assist) mini-me. Her speed and tenacity have added to our team in remarkable ways,” Mack added.

Also, on defense, Morgan Prinz ’17 had an outstanding game. The senior was smart and effective in the midfield transition.

The team is currently 13-0 with one more game at Cate on Friday, April 28 against San Marcos. “We hope to be a top seed in playoffs and have a home game next week,” Mack said.
