Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs Newbury Park

April 26, 2017

On Wednesday, April 19, the girls varsity lacrosse team traveled to Newbury Park for a battle of two top-ten teams. The Rams offense sparkled under the lights running away with a 21-12 victory.

Maddie Erikson ’19 scored the first three goals, only to be marked by Newbury Park for a bit. Then before the half, Newbury Park adjusted their draw by adding an extra defender. However, that did not stop the Cate team. Katherine Grossman ’17 had six goals while Brie Walker ’18 added eight goals and four assists.

Going into the half, the team dominated the draws, the mid-field, the ground balls, and team-spirited play. The defense also played remarkably well as a unit, helping with clean tight doubles and crashing on-the-ball carrier. Liza Borghesani ’20 had three big saves in the game.

One great standout was Daphne McKeefry ’19. She was on fire in the center and on attack and helped account for winning many of the 23 draws. The sophomore also had three goals and three assists. Margaux Vitols ’18 helped on attack with two assists.

“Overall, it was a team win. Last night showed that the Cate team has great promise going into the post-season. They work hard, have fun and support each other. They simply are a joy to coach,” said Cate Head Coach Renee Mack.

The Rams are at home on Tuesday, April 25 against Santa Barbara High School. That game will start at 5 p.m.
