Boys Varsity Volleyball vs Malibu

March 1, 2017

The Cate boys varsity volleyball team kicked off its season with a league win at home against Malibu. The Rams were able to down the sharks in three straight sets.

Chase McCaw ‘17 and Parker Matthews ‘18 worked together running a 6-2 offense and did a great job distributing the ball throughout the match. Outside hitter Theo Mack ’20 led the team with fifteen digs and fourteen kills and fellow outside hitter Cullen Barber ’19 followed up with six kills. Both hitters played a smart match by mixing up their shots and finding holes in their opponent’s defense. Middles Carson Williams ’19 and Henry Dawson ’17 teamed up to collect four kills and put up a solid block. Cooper Mayer ’17 and Nathan Martin ’17 steadied the team with solid serve-receive passing and defense. Jackson Weinberger ‘20, Jojo Broussard ‘19, Raja Promige ‘19, Sebastian Richardson ’19 and Daniaal Saeed ’17 all found time on the court to contribute.

“It was a fine debut for the Cate team and it was fun to watch the preseason work come together on the court,” said Cate Head Coach Greg Novak.

The Rams will take on local rival Carpinteria High School on Thursday, March 2 at Cate. Start time for that contest will be 4:30 p.m.
