Matt McClenathen joined the Cate community in January 2020 and serves as the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications. In his role, he serves as the managing editor for the award-winning Bulletin, and composes the bi-weekly CommuniCATE newsletter among other responsibilities to help tell the story of Cate School.

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Matt arrives on the Mesa following more than six years of communication experience between UC Santa Barbara and Cal Lutheran, where he oversaw all media relations for the intercollegiate athletics department. He has worked numerous NCAA Championship events, serving as the Media Coordinator for the 2018 Division I Men’s Soccer College Cup, and covered Cal Lutheran’s first-ever NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in 2017.

Matt graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in communication, completed his certificate in exercise and sport studies, and later earned his MBA with an emphasis in management and organizational behavior from CLU. Volunteer efforts include serving as a board member for the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table (SBART), and working as a media staff member during the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

He lives in Goleta with his wife, Katie, two sons, Dean and Grant, and dog, Dodger. In his free time, he enjoys wakesurfing at the lake, camping, traveling, and playing basketball.
