Personal records and podium finishes highlight a strong showing for Cate Track & Field

Last weekend, the Cate Track & Field program went to Carpinteria High School to compete in the 105th annual Russell Cup Track Meet—the oldest small school track meet in California. Cate brought 20 athletes to the meet, and several Rams delivered standout performances:

F/S Division
Jackson Steele ’27 had a wonderful day. We are proud of his performance in the 400m dash, where he placed 2nd with a time of 53.59. Jackson also ran the 800m in 2:08. This was his first time running this race, and he placed 6th.

Ati Zwieback ’27 also had a strong day with two podium finishes. He started with a solid 1600m performance, running a 4:37 to place 3rd in his division. He came back later to run the 800m in a time of 2:06.33, which also earned him 3rd place.

Braylin Glomah ’27 placed 4th in the Long Jump with a distance of 18′-0.25″.
Ryan Chen ’27 placed 5th in the Triple Jump with a 35′-7.25″ jump.

On the women’s side, standout performances came from team captain Emmerson Evans ’26, who earned a respectable finish in the Varsity Triple Jump with a distance of 30′-11.5″.

Freshman sensation Sloan Harwell ’28 may have had the most rewarding day, making the award podium in each of her events in the F/S division. Sloan began with an impressive personal record of 12.86 in the 100m dash, placing 2nd. She followed it up with another 2nd place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 61.09, then capped off her day by winning the F/S 200m title in 26.26.

We are proud of all our athletes who qualified for and competed at the Russell Cup. We look forward to continuing the season this Saturday, April 26, at the Santa Barbara County Championships in Lompoc.
Go Rams!
