Strength and Conditioning

At Cate, students have the chance to learn about proper training techniques at the Harcourt Fitness Center. Whether you are an athlete in search of sport specific preparation, a performing artist looking to improve cardiovascular capacity or posture, or just in need of some exercise, our strength and conditioning staff will have the right program for you. We have partnered with EXOS and Volt Athletics to give each student the knowledge to develop and take care of their body now and into the future. Our strength and conditioning program is centered around aiding students in achieving their individual health and fitness goals, whatever they may be.

Should young athletes take supplements?

Erik Hansen
Director of Strength and Conditioning
Erik returns to Cate after a 3-year hiatus during which he helped Buenaventura Swim Club high school swimmers reach the NCAA Division One level of performance as the senior team head coach and director of strength and conditioning, as well as helping Ventura College win a conference championship as the assistant swim coach. Erik was himself a nationally ranked high school swimmer and ended his career at UCSB as Men’s Team Captain. A back injury prevented him from realizing his full potential but from it stemmed a passion for learning how to most effectively train athletes to enhance performance and prevent injury. He helped implement strength programs with the UCSB Strength and Conditioning Department from 2006-2008 and has been a private strength coach, personal trainer and swim coach in the Santa Barbara and Ventura areas for eight years. He lives in Carpinteria with his wife, Erin, and two young sons, Josiah and Austin. He enjoys everything related to food, being underwater where the ocean visibility is good and being with his family outdoors.
