The Rams have won three straight Tri-Valley League titles and continue to be one of the top small-school teams in Southern California. While the school size is small, the competition isn’t. The Rams have competed in CIFss Divison 1 playoffs since 2017, going up against some of the biggest teams in Southern California.
Varsity Head Coach
Trevor Thorpe has been coaching girls tennis at Cate since 2009. Since taking over as head coach in 2013, Cate has gone on a remarkable run, moving from Division 4 to become the highest-ranked school of its size in CIF Southern Section. Prior to Cate, Trevor worked for Nike Tennis Camps and played college tennis for University of Redlands, where he was part of teams ranked as high as #6 in the country in NCAA Division 3. Trevor holds dual degrees in Political Science and History, with a minor in Physical Education and has also been certified as a USPTA Teaching Professional.
Junior Varsity Head Coach
Etienne was an all-county athlete in three sports at Nordhoff High School in near by Ojai before attending Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. While attending Cal Lutheran, Etienne played four seasons on the basketball team and played a season of water polo for the Kingsmen in their first year having an official team. After graduating, Etienne spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine. Etienne taught physical education, while also coaching basketball and volleyball, before eventually starting a youth tennis club with local partners. After completing his service, Etienne returned to Ojai and spent four years at the Weil Tennis Academy as a coach and co-director of college placement. Now at Cate, Etienne is in his third year with the Rams coaching boys and girls jv tennis and assisting in the basketball program, as well.
