Early Saturday morning, eight distance runners from our track team traveled to Westlake for an early-season distance meet.
Junior Sophie Blank returned to competition after missing last season due to an injury. Sophie finished 2nd overall in the 800m in a new personal record, PR, of 2:28.06. In the 1600m, she placed 10th out of 113 runners in a time of 5:32.
In the boys’ 800m, Junior Jackson Steele ran a great race, winning his heat in a new PR of 2:02.2. Senior Jordan Ryan (2:12), Sophomore Ethan Qui (2:14), and Junior Miles Williams (2:14) also improved their PR’s in the 800m.
In the boys’ 1600m, Sophomore Jackson Kerr had the biggest PR of the day. Jackson improved his best time from last year, 5:39, to 5:12 yesterday and won his heat going away!
Junior, Ati Zwieback ran a PR and finished 8th out of 242 runners in 4:33. Junior Jackson Muller ran 5:15.
Miles Williams set a new PR in the 3200, breaking the 11:00 minute mark, and Jackson Kerr, fresh off his 1600m PR, broke 12:00 minutes in his first 3200.
In a new CIF event this year, the Rams entered a 4x800m relay team, which might be the first in school history. (We are checking for accuracy.)
The team of Ethan, Ati, Jordan, and Jackson Steele placed 3rd overall behind Granada Hills and Foothill Tech. This may be the team to watch out for this spring!
