Yesterday, our Cate girls’ water polo team traveled to a cold and rainy Simi Valley for a non-league game against Royal High School. The final score was 17-5 in favor of a talented Royal side. Royal presented some challenges to our young group with their physicality and well-rounded offensive attack. I was proud that our girls didn’t back down and improved their production as the game progressed.

Alena Ballat had another great game, scoring three of our five goals. In just two games this season, she’s tallied an impressive eight goals. We’ll continue to lean on her offensively when we return from the break. Maria Salyards had a great game as well. While her impact may not show up in the stat sheet, she played to her strengths by causing turnovers and getting out on the fast break for counterattack opportunities. Amber Lam also had another strong performance. In just her second match, she tallied five saves, including one on a penalty shot.

Looking ahead, we take a week off to celebrate Thanksgiving before returning to the Mesa for the middle stretch of our season. When we return, we’ll travel to Louisville High School for another non-league game on December 4th. Go Rams!
