Football Loses to Sage Hill

October 22, 2026

SAGE HILL  23   14   9   0  = 46

CATE             0    6    0   0   = 6

The Cate Rams hosted the Sage Hill Lightning for a Tri-Valley League matchup. The Lightning came into the contest ranked #2 in the state for 8 player football, boasting a 5-0 record. The Rams, stuck in a three game losing streak, looked to right the ship. Unfortunately for Cate, they never found their stride, Sage Hill returned the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, when senior Caleb Kuo broke through the wedge to spring himself free. On the ensuing drive Ram quarterback Sam Lambiotte was picked off on a deflected pass attempt setting up another quick Sage Hill score. Just 30 seconds later, the Rams turned the ball over yet again when the Lightning scooped an errant snap for another touchdown and a 23-0 lead. The teams would exchange drives before Ram Junior Andrew Jayich forced the first of two fumbles on the day when he punched the ball out from running back Kuo. Unfortunately the ensuing Ram drive would stall out. Two drives later Sage Hill would score again when Lightning Quarterback Gunnar Hall would find Kuo in the back of the end zone to add to the lead. The Rams would answer when offensive lineman Marcus Wong would scoop up a Cate fumble and rumble 60 yards for a score. The Lightning would remain in control as they headed to a 46-6 victory. The loss moves the Rams to 2-4 on the season and 0-3 in Tri-Valley League play.

Head Coach Ben Soto chose to focus on the silver linings of the tough loss. “While it was a tough afternoon, it was great to see some of our younger players step up when their number was called. Freshman Jaxson Docksteader showed his toughness capped by a 32 yard kickoff return and fellow 9th grader Alonso Jurado continues to make plays on defense. Our future is bright.”

The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Palos Verdes to face Chadwick in another Tri-Valley League matchup.
