Cate Track and Field Race League Championships

On Friday. May 1st, The Cate Track & Field program traveled to Ventura College to compete in the Tri-Valley League Finals. Today’s contest produced numerous personal best performances in an environment of camaraderie, good sportsmanship, respect, and encouragement. Head Coach, Kyle Mason says, “I’m proud of this group and the growth we have and will continue to experience. We are excited for CIF-SS Prelims and the future of our program.”

There were many standout performances on the day, a number of which saw Cate athletes take home the league championship. Two performances in particular foreshadowed top -10 performances next week. Sophie Blank ‘27 demonstrated her strength and command of the 800m run with a decisive win in this race. Sophie took a commanding lead within the first 250m of the race and never looked back. She finished in 1st place with a time of 2:27.00, almost 9 full seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Earlier in the day, Sophie finished 2nd in the Girls 1600m run with a qualifying time of 5:21.71. Sophie Blank ‘27 will represent the Rams next week in each event.

Junior, Jackson Steele ‘27 returned to campus as a league champion in the Boys 400m dash. With calculated precision and confidence, Jackson ran a beautiful race, creating a 15-meter cushion within the first 110m of the race. By the middle of the back stretch, heading into meter 300, Jackson had secured his victory, holding off competitors for a convincing win in 54.38 seconds. Jackson is prepared to move into his top gear next week as competition steps up. With a personal best time of 50.83, Jackson Steele ‘27 is ready to disrupt the top group of ¼ milers at next week’s Prelims.

The Cate Rams will compete in 12 events at the CIF-SS Prelims, with the Boys and Girls varsity teams. Ati Zwieback ‘27, Boys V 16000m with a time of 4:29.69 (2nd Place). Sloan Harwell ‘28, Girls V 100m Dash with a time of 12.83 (2nd Place). Miles Thompson ‘27, Boys V 200m Dash with a time of 23.28 (3rd Place). Ryan Chen ‘ 27, Boys V Triple Jump with a distance of 37-07.00 (League Champion). *Emerson Evans ‘26, Girls V Triple Jump with a distance of 32-09.25 (League Champion). Girls V 4X400m Relay with a time of 4:17.98 (League Champions). Sophie Blank ‘27 / Gwen McTigue ‘26/ *Emerson Evans ‘26 / Sloan Harwell ‘28.
