Rams Swim Well at Tri County Invitational

The Cate School swim team had a strong showing at the Tri County Invitational at San Marcos High School today, with the boys’ team finishing second and the girls finishing third, each out of fourteen total teams.

The boys’ team of Josiah Hansen ’27, Devon Liang ’27, Wil Rivera ’27 and Jae Wykoff ’26 opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Liang also picked up an individual win in the 100 breaststroke and a fifth place in the 200 Individual Medley to lead the scoring for Cate. Josiah Hansen was second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 100 butterfly, with the latter swim breaking Zack Allen’s team record from 2015 with a new top time of 50.62. Wykoff was also 3rd in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free, Rivera 3rd in the 500 free, and Charlie Guo ’29 finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and tied for third in the 100 backstroke.
The Cate girls’ squad of Emi Kanda-Gleeson ‘27, Sofia Wang ‘28, Jen Won ’26 and Makayla Niu ‘27 finished second in the 200 medley relay with a new school record time of 1:56.30. Kanda-Gleeson also finished second in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke, the latter breaking her own school record set just two weeks ago. Won also placed third in the 100 butterfly, while Wang finished fifth in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 breaststroke. Tori Kim ’27 was sixth in the 100 backstroke, and Niu was sixth in the 50 freestyle and 8th in the 100 breaststroke. Finally, the team of Maddie Kollock ’27, Wang, Amber Lam ’29 and Niu finished third in the 200 freestyle relay, while Kanda-Gleeson, Kollock, Kim and Won finished third in the 400 freestyle relay.
Cate races again next Thursday, 4/16 at Foothill Tech.
