Rams Fall to Strong San Marcos Side

April 20, 2026

Cate 5 San Marcos 12

The first Cate Rams couldn’t sustain the momentum in a grueling league matchup against San Marcos, eventually falling 5-12. In the first quarter, Cate scored 2 goals on a San Marcos penalty then trailing by just one goal with a score of 2-3 going into the second quarter. However, as the second quarter got underway, the Rams came out flat, struggling to match the Royals’ transition speed and clinical finishing. San Marcos went on a decisive run, stretching the lead to 3-7 by halftime—a gap that proved too wide to close. Despite the scoreboard, the Rams showed flashes of offensive brilliance. Lauren Hubbs was a force, factoring into all but one of the team’s goals with a 3-goal, 2-assist performance. Claire Bianchi and Maia Holmes each found the back of the net to keep the pressure on, while Harper Halbardier provided a key spark with an assist.  The struggle of the night was found at the center circle. Cate went 6-for-16 on draws, a deficit that allowed San Marcos to dominate time of possession and keep the Rams’ defense on their heels. The Rams will look to tighten up their draw controls and conditioning as they prepare to bounce back in the next outing.
