Cate 15 Santa Barbara 4
The Cate Girls Varsity lacrosse team had a dominant showing today on the road against Santa Barbara, capturing a 15-4 win by controlling the tempo from the very first whistle. We jumped ahead to a commanding 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. By halftime, the score was 11-2, a testament to our offensive efficiency and the relentless pressure/effort from our midfield unit of Lauren Hubbs, Carmen Lack and Posie Hexner.
Our success today started at the center circle. Cate dominated the draw, winning 15 of the 22 contests. This possession allowed our middies to set the pace of the game and create constant scoring opportunities. It was truly a full team effort, with the ball moving quickly through our transitions and finding the open cutters. The seniors and juniors continue to showcase their growth and confidence on the field. Lauren Hubbs was everywhere today, leading the charge with 4 goals and 2 assists. Maia Holmes remained a force to be reckoned with on the low attack, netting 4 goals of her own. Carmen Lack also stepped up big, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists to the tally. Other highlights included a strong offensive presence from Posie Hexner, who finished with 1 goal and 2 assists, and Fiona Pan, who added a goal and an assist. Harper Halbardier and Sofi Ridgeway also found the back of the net, proving that we have a deep bench capable of threatening from any position.
On the defensive end, the communication was clear and well-coordinated. In net, Chelsea Newlove was impressive in her performance, recording 7 saves and helping to anchor our defensive stops. I am incredibly proud of the selflessness and grit this team showed today. We are playing team lacrosse, and the chemistry is wonderful to watch.
