Cate Swim Tops Foothill Tech Invitational

Cate School’s boys and girls swim teams each finished first out of seven teams at the Foothill Tech Invitational today in Ventura.

The top performer on the day was Emi Kanda-Gleeson, who finished first and set new Cate School records in the 100 butterfly (1:00.01) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.97), the latter besting Sophia Soriano’s 12-year-old standard.
Other girls’ individual event winners on the day for Cate were Sofia Wang in the 200 IM and Captain Jen Won in the 50 freestyle.
In relay action, the team of Tori Kim, Wang, Kanda-Gleeson and Makayla Niu won the 200 Medley Relay, while Kanda-Gleeson, Maddie Kollock, Wang and Won took first in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and Won, Kim, Niu and Kollock won the 400 Freestyle Relay.
In the boys’ meet, Josiah Hansen finished first in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Wil Rivera won the 200 Individual Medley, and captain Elliot Paige won the 200 freestyle.
In relays, Hansen, Devon Liang, Rivera and Maddox Tanaka finished first in the 200 Medley Relay, while Hansen, Paige, Charlie Guo and Rivera topped the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Finally, in Junior Varsity action, the all-freshman team of Henry Hicks, Tyler Chen, Carter Golde and Alden Rosenfeld beat out four other teams to win the JV 200 Freestyle Relay.
Cate will host its final home meet of the season next Friday at 2:30 PM.
