Cate Swim Hosts Dunn, Laguna Blanca and St. Bonaventure

Cate’s senior swimmers took the spotlight in their final home meet yesterday afternoon at the Emmett Horowitz Aquatic Center.

Leading the Cate boys’ team was co-captain Elliott Paige ‘26, who won four events on the day. He took first in the 200 and 500 freestyles with times of 1:51.94 and 5:04.29 respectively. He also anchored Cate’s winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Senior sprinter Jae Wykoff ’26 was also in top form. He anchored Cate’s winning 200 medley relay with an impressive 21.7 freestyle split. He joined Paige and in the winning 200 Free relay, and finished third in tight fields in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Co-captain Tristan Maigret ’26 also had a good day, finishing third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle.
Multitalented Mo Kanda-Gleeson ‘26 had a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke just a few hours below performing the lead role in the school musical.
In the girls’ meet, it was senior captain Jen Won ’26 winning the 100 butterfly as she has so many times over the last four years, this time in a speedy in-season time of 1:01.35. Won also led off the winning 200 freestyle relay, and swam the first 100 breaststroke of her Cate career, finishing second and becoming the 7th fastest performer all-time for Cate in the event. Won now holds an all-time Cate top 10 time in every event.
Wrapping up the senior action, Ali Zielina ’26 dropped nearly three seconds from her seed time time to win the JV 50 freestyle in a new personal best time of 31.40.
Other individual event winners on the day for the Cate boys included Josiah Hansen ’27 in the 100 freestyle, Charlie Guo ’29 in the 100 backstroke, and Devon Liang in the 100 breaststroke with a new personal best of 59.80 to break the 1 minute barrier for the first time. Hansen, Liang, Wykoff and Wil Rivera ‘27 also teamed to win the 200 medley relay, while Wykoff, Hansen, Rivera and Paige finished first in the 200 freestyle relay.
Emi Kanda Gleeson ’27 won two individual events on the day for the Cate girls, winning the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke. Tori Kim ’27 picked up a big win in the 50 freestyle, swimming a new personal best of 26.26 good for Cate’s 8th fastest performer all time. And Maddie Kollock ’27 swam to victory in the 100 freestyle.The team of Kim, Niu, Kollock and Sofia Wang ’28 also won the 200 medley relay. Kanda-Gleeson and Kim teamed with Maria Salyards ’28 and Ellie Daly ’29 to take first in the 400 freestyle relay. And finally, in a passing of the torch, senior Jen Won was joined by three first-year swimmers, Kirra Tanaka ’29, Adele Tan ’29 and Amber Lam ’29, in the winning 200 freestyle relay.
The Cate boys won the overall meet with 130 points to runner up Laguna Blanca’s 39. In the girls’ meet, Cate’s 131 points toped second-place St. Bonaventure’s 49.
Cate is back in action with the Tri Valley League Championships starting next Wednesday in Ventura.
