BVT Routs Villanova 18-0

April 6, 2026

Season record: 6-0 (5-0 league)

Today, your Cate School Boys Varsity Tennis team hit the courts for the second leg of a back-to-back against the Villanova Wildcats. After defeating Bishop 18-0, your Rams were hoping to continue their undefeated season, and they certainly did not disappoint. Upon the Wildcat’s arrival on the Mesa, it was discovered that they were woefully undermanned, only able to muster up a five-player roster, meaning that they automatically conceded six sets, putting Cate 2/3 of the way to victory before the first ball was even served. Certainly, no complaints from the team, as 32-0 in the past two days is not too shabby.
Your starting lineup was Andrew Jayich ’28, Bruce Li ’28, and Ramsey Bolton ’29 in singles, and doubles pairings of Graham Clinger ’26/Kiy Barry ’26, Kaden Greene ’27/Kendrick Suen ’28, and James He ’27/Kenneth Wang ’27. The set scores were very reminiscent of the day before, with the team dropping only 4 games and going 72-4. Jayich won all three of his sets, going 6-0 6-1 6-0, while Li performed similarly, winning his two sets 6-1 6-0, subbing out for Ian Sheshunoff ’26, who won his set 6-0. Bolton won his set 6-1 and was relieved by Kakeru Hirofuji ’27 who double bageled 6-0 6-0 to complete the singles sweep. On the doubles side, Clinger/Barry won their set 6-1, followed by Greene/Suen winning 6-0, and rounded up by He/Wang winning 6-0 to complete the doubles sweep.
The season and our record so far reflect both the team’s skill and its depth. This matchup was no different, with our players continuing to adapt to anything in order to outplay our opponents in wide-margin victories.
