Your Cate Swim Team kicked off the 2026 season on Friday with big wins for both the girls’ (98.5 to 64.5) and boys’ (120-49) squads over crosstown rival Carp High. Jen Won ’26 (200 free, 100 butterfly), Emi Kanda-Gleeson ’27 (200 Individual Medley, 100 backstroke), and Wil Rivera (200 Individual Medley, 500 free) led the way with two wins apiece. Jae Wykoff ’26 (50 free), Josiah Hansen ’27 (100 butterfly), Devon Liang ’27 (100 breaststroke), Sofia Wang ’28 (100 breaststroke), and newcomer Charlie Guo ’29 (100 backstroke) each picked up an individual win as well. These swimmers plus Tori Kim ’27, Maddie Kollock ’27, Makayla Niu ’27, Mo Kanda-Gleeson ’26 and Elliot Paige ’26 combined to sweep all six relays in the meet.
Other highlights of the day included stalwart performances in some of the most demanding events by some of the newest members of the team. Adele Tan ’29 (third), Ellie Daly ’29 (fourth) and Liam Moes ’29 (third) each took on the 500 freestyle, while Guo (third) and Daly (fourth) swam the 100 butterfly, and Amber Lam ’29 (fourth) and Oliver White ’29 (fifth) tackled the 200 individual medley. Also, Guo’s winning time in the 100 backstroke and Moes’ effort in the 500 freestyle made them the seventh and eight fastest performers in Cate history, respectively.
We will be back in action this Friday with our first home meet of the year, at 3:30 pm against Foothill Tech. Come out and support!
