GVS Run Ends in the Semifinals

Cate GVS 1 – 2 Azusa High School (Semifinals)

Goal: Precious Adjei (her 20th of the season!)

A quick note before bed as I didn’t want to leave this one hanging.  We lost today down in Azusa, but not for lack of effort.  At this point in the playoff, our team was held together by Lieah’s tape and sheer willpower. Blood, sweat, and tears were all shed; and Precious managed to net yet another spectacular goal.  The Azusa team was physically strong and good at interrupting our passing game, which was frustrating, however we did wear them down over time and created some pretty chances.  The two goals against came from big long balls out of the midfield that were impossible to stop.  The final ten minutes had a wild, hopeful, urgency to them and we were in total control, but unable to generate a second goal.  Our senior captains Lauren Hubbs, Tania Molina, Nika Iverson, and Claire Bianchi, pushed themselves and the team to the absolute edge of our physical capabilities.  I’m feeling very proud of all this group accomplished and even more proud of the growth shown since November.  Congratulations on an incredible, historic playoff run.  Until next time, Ewenited!
