This Week in Athletics

February 5, 2026

This week brought an end to the winter season. With strong finishes to the season, girls soccer, boys soccer and girls basketball are heading to playoffs! Next week will bring a shake up to routine as students head to their spring commitments, while we cheer on our playoff bound teams.

Girls Soccer: Girls soccer finished their season strong with three wins on the trot. They found their scoring shoes against Villanova with a 7-0 home win. When they headed to Villanova on the road, it became a high scoring topsy-turvy affair. The Rams came out on top in a 6-5 win! The Rams face Foothill Tech in their final game of the season winning (2-1) and clinching a playoff berth. We are excited watch their playoff run!

Boys Soccer: Boys soccer continued to be a scoring machine over the last two weeks. 28 goals for while conceding 5 in the four games. They travelled significantly over this winning run, up Cambria to play Coast Union (9-1), to Santa Barbara to play Bishop Diego (6-2), to Los Olivos to face Dunn (9-0), before their final home game and Senior Night against Thacher (4-2). We are excited watch their playoff run!

Girls Water Polo: Girls water polo played out their final two games against strong opposition in Malibu and Foothill Tech. Despite the heavy defeats to end the season, Coach Morrison said, “Despite both games being losses, I was proud of how our girls stayed focused, resilient, and determined throughout. We never lost sight of our goals despite what the scoreboard indicated.”

Girls Basketball: Its been a quieter two weeks for girls basketball with only two games. After a 39-22 loss to Thacher, the team rebounded in their final league game against Dunn. A 31-22 win over the earwigs send the Rams into playoffs with momentum! We will find out their schedule next week.

Boys Basketball: The boys basketball team went 2-2 in the final weeks of the season. The highlight was a home win over Thacher on Senior Night. The Rams took it to the visiting Toads going up 15-0 from the start. The energy was high in Sprague Gym as a home crowd came out to support. The Rams finished the game on top 69-62. Cate fell to strong Foothill Tech and St. Bonaventure teams, but ended the season with a dominant win over Providence 62-32.

Dance and Surf: Big congratulations to our dancers for their two performances this week. Amazing to see their season of dedication and hardwork come together. Here is a link to the show. Cate Surf enjoyed some incredible waves to end the season. In the final competition of the seasons, Freshman phenom, Carter, won his first two heats but came up just short in the semi-final. Sophie Blank surfed incredibly well in the semi-final of both the short and longboard divisions, but just missed out on the podium in both, with respectable 4th (longboard) and 5th (shortboard) place finishes. Elias Smith finished his competitive Cate surfing career with a strong 1st place finish in shortboard.
