Your Cate Rams wrapped up the regular season earlier today on a beautiful evening in front of a large home crowd on Meldman Field on Senior night hosting rivals Thacher Toads. The ALL SENIOR starting eleven featured Braedan Parker on goal. The defensive back line was anchored by seniors Charlie Dorion, Kamil Abdul-Nafeo, Alex Gallegos, and Oliver Charvel. The midfield trio consisted of Dimash Anuarbek, Quincy Thorne, and George Marin. Leading the attack was Kiy Barry, Jordan Ryan, and Emil Arconinan.
The Rams got a hot start out of the gates and scored what I believe to be one of the fastest goals from the starting whistle in Cate history when 30 seconds into the game Dimash connected with Kiy who found himself in a one on one with the Toad keeper to beat him and give us the very early 1-0 lead. The early goal energized the crowd as well as the players and we pressed forward in an effort to increase our lead. We knocked on the door several times in the next few minutes but the toad keeper turned us away. In the 18th minute Thacher converted and equalized the score.
We gathered our composure and slowed the game down with precision passing, possession, and patience to slowly dissect the toads. In the 27th minute Kamil collected a rebound off a shot by George and drilled the ball in the back of the net to regain the lead and control of the game. In the 34th minute Quincy extended our lead when he received a pass from Kamil and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner to make the score 3-1 at the half.
The second half was much of the same with your Rams controlling the pace and tempo and wearing down the Toads. In the 67th minute, Kamil scored his second of the game when he connected with a corner from Teke to put the visiting Toads away. Thatcher was able to get one back with time running out but it wouldn’t be enough and your Rams secured a 4-2 victory.
It was nice to see a big home crowd as we look ahead to the playoffs. The home supporters motivated us and helped us secure the win on Senior night against our rivals. The post game ceremony was beautiful and bittersweet. However, our work is not done. On Saturday we’ll know where our next chapter will begin. We are hoping we get a home game or two because we know that having the crowd like we had today is ELECTRIFYING.
I’d like to give a huge thank you to those of you that came out to support us. Mr. McDonald for emceeing our ceremony, the students and faculty for your energy, and for our Cate MVS families for coming to support your athlete and his team and making today special.
