The Rams charged into 2026 with a flurry of games to kick off January!
Girls varsity soccer have battle every game in close contests keeping the score tight. The team won a tough battle away at Thacher in 1-0 win following a 1-0 defeat to Foothill Tech. The team then faced St. Bonaventure in a tight 1-1 draw, which was a big turn around from the 3-0 defeat they faced earlier in the season. Most recently, the team lost to 3-1 to Grace. The team continues to show up and battle for each other after suffering a number of injuries that have thinned the squad. Three league games to go for the Rams in the coming week! Villanova (twice) and Foothill Tech.
Cate boys soccer have enjoyed a fruitful start to 2026. 3 games. 3 wins. 20 goals. 2 conceded. The team has found their rhythm! They easily brushed aside Bishop Diego (5-2), Dunn (7-0), and Foothill Tech (8-0) despite being down to ten men for the majority of the game. The team plays three league contests against Coast Union, Bishop Diego and Dunn next week. The team will hope to maintain a healthy squad as they look to keep the season going long into February.
GVWP enjoyed a busy return to action with 5 games since the return from break. The team found success against Del Sol in a 16-6 win. They play Del Sol again this afternoon. The Ram’s suffered defeats to strong competition, Foothill Tech, Villanova (twice), and Malibu in their other games. Despite the tough run of games, Coach Morrison remains impressed by the fight the players put in against the talented opposition and their ability to learn and build stronger performances game to game. Before the home match against Villanova, the team celebrated their seniors Carmen, Chloe, and Maddie on Senior Night. Congratulations to the seniors and thank you for their commitment to the program!
After a difficult two games at the start of January, the Cate girls basketball has found its stride in recent games. Defeats to Carpinteria HS and Villanova kicked off 2026, but the Rams are now on 4 game winning streak. The Rams swept past Del Sol (30-19), Dunn (60-33), Laguna Blanca (30-18), and Providence (56-18). The teams been buoyed by the eligibility of sophomore Maree who has put in several commanding performances. In the win over Providence, the team sent their seniors Emerson, Maia, Jasper, and team manager Elsie off in style with their big home win. Congratulation to the seniors! The team has two more league games to go against Thacher and Dunn.
Boys basketball came into January with a flurry of games. After open 2026 in a defeat to Foothill Tech, the team quickly turned it around in a nail biting 58-57 win over Nordhoff in front of a raucous Sprague Gymnasium. The moment stalled in a tricky away loss to Thacher and heavy defeat to the talented Bishop Diego. A comprehensive (65-24) win over Del Sol has steadied the ship and there is still a lot to play for this season with 4 league games in the next 10 days.
