Yesterday, January 21st, our Cate girls’ water polo team hosted Foothill Tech to conclude our first round of league games. The final score was 17-3 in favor of a quick and organized Foothill side. We were able to start strong defensively, but some heady plays by Foothill, and some structured counterattacking allowed them to jump out to an early lead.

Senior Captain Carmen Lack played her best game of the season yesterday. She took on the challenge of a new role in the second half and made immediate positive contributions. Junior goalkeeper Ellie Walmsley returned from injury yesterday and played the second half for us. We won the third quarter 3-1 thanks to her presence in the cage and strong outlet passing. Lastly, Alena Ballat showed great anticipation in transition, creating fast-break opportunities for our group, converting two of them.

While Foothill was another difficult game, we were able to continue learning and growing as a group. There were great takeaways that we hope to improve on going forward. Looking ahead, we will have our senior day tomorrow when we host Villanova for our last home game of the season. Go Rams!
