Girls Varsity Water Polo Cate vs Villanova

Cate 7 = 0 + 2 + 4 + 1

Villanova 23 = 6 + 4 + 5 + 8

Yesterday, our Cate girls’ water polo team traveled to Ojai for our first league match of the season against Villanova Prep. The final score was 23-7 in favor of a skilled and physical Villanova side. This was a pick-your-poison type of match with Nova having experience and talent littered throughout the pool. We were able to get going offensively in the second half, but the lead was too large for us to make a significant enough run to close the gap.

Violet Monda led the way for us offensively, finishing the game with an impressive four goals. In the past few games, we have seen Violet take a more aggressive approach to scoring, which has really helped our team. Chloe Chen, Sofia Wang, and Sydney Brass were all able to find the back of the net from dynamic front-court movement. Amber Lam finished the game with eight great saves.

While it wasn’t the outcome we hoped for in game one of our league schedule, there were some key takeaways that we can take to training and improve on. I am always proud of our group, and yesterday was no different. Win or lose, this team plays hard until the final whistle. Looking ahead, we play the top team in our league, Malibu High School, tomorrow, and Del Sol on Friday. Go Rams!
