Cate GVS 1 – 1 St. Bonaventure
Saves: Mimi Power (12), Tania Molina/Lauren Hubbs (1)
Goal: Precious Adjei (29th minute; PK)
You missed a good one! So exciting. So fun to watch. Our passing game and our attack was the best it’s been all season, no question. We recorded over 130 completed passes, led in this stat by Precious Adjei, Nika Iverson, Fiona Pan, Violet Guilbert-Neal, Claire Bianchi, and Sierra Montoya. That’s our midfield right there – they worked really hard today. We played a high press in the offensive third with the objective of capitalizing on defensive mistakes. Harper Bishop, once again, was incredibly valuable up top, with unceasing energy and her ability to run through the ball. But anyway, the midfield had to link together our high pressing offense and our defense, who were dealing with two really talented forwards. These passing numbers are evidence of the sheer effort the midfielders put in on both sides of the ball. Precious, in particular, had a wonderful game, switching unpredictably between a direct attack and distribution, throwing off St. Bonaventure and creating opportunity after opportunity. I don’t think we’ve ever had so many shots on frame as a team – twenty! Including two (?) off the crossbar. We’ve got to finish some of these, yes, but their goalkeeper was excellent and very tall; give her credit. In our net, Mimi Power had to make a few big decisions today when St. Bonaventure had dangerous attacks, but her choices to come out and get the ball were always good ones. You’ll also notice our senior defenders Tania and Lauren kept an important ball out of the net at one point! The goal against was an excellent shot from about 25 yards out that sailed over everyone and is tough to feel too bad about, even though we wish we could have applied more intense pressure in the moment that shot was taken. Our defense made great adjustments, learning who/when to double and get into coverage positions. I’m so proud of the style of soccer played today and I think, parents, you can watch it on this link because they had a hudl camera set up. Our growth as a team is evident, our commitment and work ethic have never been stronger, and I’m excited to see what we can bring against Grace on Thursday. Until then, Ewenited!
