Cate Surf Competes in Ventura

The Cate School Surf Team made the short drive down the coast to the Ventura Fairground for the final competitive fixture of the season.
Junior Sophie Blank, for the fifth time this year, represented the school in both the girls longboard and girls shortboard divisions. Senior Brady Mogensen surfed in the boys longboard division while Senior Elias Smith and Freshman Carter Golde, surfed in the boys shortboard division.
The Cate surfers showed up ready to compete and all participants advanced from their preliminary heats to the individual rounds. Conditions were ideal and Brady Mogensen, in his third year of competitive surfing may have had one of, if not his best heat ever.
The Freshman phenom, Carter, won his first two heats but came up just short in the semi-final. Sophie Blank surfed incredibly well in the semi-final of both the short and longboard divisions, but just missed out on the podium in both, with respectable 4th (longboard) and 5th (shortboard) place finishes. Elias Smith finished his competitive Cate surfing career with a strong 1st place finish in shortboard. Congratulations to everyone who competed this year.
