Cate Boys Varsity Basketball traveled to Oxnard to play Del Sol and secured a 65-24 victory. We needed this win. Our guys have worked hard all season and have faced a great deal of adversity, so it was meaningful to finally put together a game where we could shine. Our pressure stood out from the opening tip and set the tone for the rest of the game.
Juniors Jackson Steele and Braylin Glomah led the way with each contributing crucial points early on: Steele with 12 of his 23 points in the first 8 minutes, while Glomah added 6 of his 15 in the first quarter. Sophomore Gurnoop Singh played tough, unselfish basketball, battling for multiple offensive rebounds and providing the Rams with numerous second-chance opportunities. Senior Chase Meyer led by example once again by outhustling our opponents and causing multiple turnovers in the full-court press. A highlight of tonight’s game was having 8 different offensive contributors.
We remain a young team, with just one uninjured senior, which makes this an especially encouraging team performance. Two freshmen, Ian Kim and Julian Belfer started and played very well tonight. Our demanding schedule has challenged us night after night, and games like this remind us that we can compete. We’re young and still learning. This performance was an important step forward as we head into a tough final stretch of Tri-Valley League play.
Up next: St. Bonaventure on Friday (away at 7pm), followed by Foothill (away at 7:30pm), and Thacher (home at 6:30 pm). Please mark your calendars for our next home game, Senior Night against rival Thacher on Friday, January 30th. We hope to see you there supporting our team and seniors Chase Meyer, Josh Butler, and Barron Crayton.
